A Senior Moment

I'm a WHAT?

October 17, 2025

I recently celebrated a birthday and it was a difficult number for me, not a 5 or a 0 but significant nonetheless. When I was younger, hockey players in the NHL looked so old and now when I look at them I wonder if their mother’s drove them to the rink for the game. Certain things seemed so far in the future that I questioned whether I would ever get there, this birthday was one of those. I have always loved the Beatles song “When I’m Sixty-Four”, again that age seemed so far away, it is now in the rearview mirror. I need a new destination, is there a song about being, I don’t know, 90!

Okay, so how is 64? I am definitely Older but so far, not old. I am still very active and enjoy all the activities I have always enjoyed, I may go to bed a little more tired than I used to but that’s fine, I still have the energy to wake up some time in the night to pee. The body is showing some signs of aging but the sprit still thinks it is 30, maybe 40. Don’t let numbers define who you are, your mind is running the show and life is there to be enjoyed. On the bright side, there are many senior discounts that start at 55 (some places), increase in numbers at 60 and when you hit 65 the list expands greatly. So in answer to my question, I am a Senior and thrilled to have made it.

Here is a little AI generated blurb, a nicely worded way of saying “Use it or lose it”.

Why Staying Active Matters After 55

Maintaining an active lifestyle after 55 is crucial for both physical and mental well-being. Regular exercise helps improve cardiovascular health, enhances mobility, and reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Beyond physical benefits, staying active keeps the mind sharp, boosts mood, and fosters social connections.

How Can Seniors Start an
Active Lifestyle?

Starting an active lifestyle doesn’t mean you have to hit the gym every day. Here are some simple ways to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine:
  • Walking: A low-impact exercise that’s easy on the joints and can be done anywhere.
  • Yoga: Improves flexibility, balance, and mental clarity.
  • Swimming: A full-body workout with minimal strain on the body.
  • Dancing: Combines fun and exercise, and can be a great social activity.
